Amarbayasgalant Monastery is one of Mongolia’s most significant and best-preserved Buddhist monasteries, second only to Erdene Zuu Monastery in Kharkhorin. Built between 1727 and 1737 under the orders of Manchu Emperor Yongzheng, this architectural marvel was dedicated to Zanabazar, Mongolia’s legendary Buddhist leader, scholar, and sculptor.

Set in a peaceful valley, the monastery blends Tibetan and Chinese architectural styles, featuring intricate carvings, vibrant colors, and sacred Buddhist relics. The surrounding landscape is dotted with ancient Turkic stone graves (khirigsuurs and balbals), some dating back over 2,000 years, adding to the site’s mystical aura.
