Many cultures around the world have traditional clothes – from lederhosen in Bavaria to the kimono in Japan. Mongolia is no different. Their traditional clothes are called a deel. It’s pronounced “dell” like the-farmer-in-the, but it doesn’t mean a clearing.

Among the skyscrapers and shopping malls, there sits a white building and a temple in a small clearing. The mountain stands behind it, protecting the city. Not far behind is the mighty Tuul River. The white building is by todays standards, a modest building. The temple is beautiful, but dwarfed by the 6-story mall nearby. However, if you were a lucky visitor to Ich Khirie, as Ulaanbaatar was known then, you would be standing near the largest building in town, if you could even get close enough. This is the home of the Bogd Khan.

The Mongols are privileged to enjoy four seasons in the heart of Asia, and Mongolian winter is famous for being cold & harsh. However, it does not mean that you just stay at home & do nothing during winter in Ulaanbaatar. Tourism Department of Ulaanbaatar city is organising “UB Winter Festival” for the first time, with a vision of making the festival one of the biggest winter events in Asia. And we all know that this winter’s been so blessing mild! Yeepee!
