BEST TOUR OPERATOR
of the Skal International Ecotourism Awards 2005

skal international ecotourism awardsSelena Travel LLC received “Best Tour Operators / Travel Agent” award from the 2005 Skel International Ecotourism Awards. The winners were announced on 17 October 2005 during the 66th Skal Congress (http://www.skal.org) opening ceremony in Zagreb, Croatia.
This is the first time a Mongolian company receives this honored award and it was given to Selena Travel as a prize of their efforts and achievements on founding a new ecotourism destination “Gun-Galuut Nature Reserve” in Bayandelger soum, Tuv province, conservation of globally endangered species and developing environment friendly – community based tourism in the nature reserve.

Skål, founded as an international association in 1934 in Paris is the largest organization of travel and tourism professionals in the world, embracing all sectors of the tourism industry, including hoteliers, travel agents, airlines, tourism media, tourism students etc. Skål with 22,000 members is active in 87 Countries and approximately 500 locations worldwide.

Skål International launched the Ecotourism Awards in 2002, to highlight and acknowledge best practices around the globe. The awards is given in 6 categories (Tour Operator, Accommodation, General Countryside, Transport, City/Village and Education/Media) basing on their contribution to the conservation of nature, environmental considerations, cultural heritage conservation, community involvement and benefits, educational features, Business viability and innovation.

The six winners of 2005 and their categories are:

  • Selena Travel (Mongolia) - Tour Operators/Travel Agents
  • Campi ya Kanzi (Kenya) - Accommodation
  • Silja Line (Finland) - Transportation
  • Karori Wildlife Sanctuary (New Zealand) - General Countryside
  • Kalofer (Bulgaria) - Cities/Villages
  • Garma Festival of Traditional Culture (Australia) - Educational Programmes/Media
