Darkhad
Depression - This place is famous for
its fishing or fly-fishing sites and spectacular
landscape. Also there is unique culture and
traditions of ethnic minorities. The fascinating
snowcapped mountains of Khoridol Saridag and
Sayan Mountain Ranges, many pure and untouched
mountain rivers and lakes make this region incomparable
to anywhere else in the world. This region is
well known for also Tsaatan or Reindeer people,
who live in the high mountain taiga, breeding
reindeer and still remain shamanist.
The
Rivers Shishghid and Tenghis are world
famous for their enormous Taimen. Taimen, so
called King of the Rivers, is one of the largest
freshwater fish on earth, can be up to 1.6 m
in length, average 0.5- 1.4 m. Taimen are the
major sport fish in Mongolia and can be caught
on a large imitation mouse fly or prairie dog
sized lure; the surface takes can be spectacular!
Fly-fishing in Mongolia isn't just all about
casting huge flies for these giant trout: dry-fly
fishing for Lenok and Grayling is exquisite.
Spinning and lure fishing is excellent too.
Siberian grayling, Siberian white fish, Lenok,
and Taimen can all be found in this the region.
The
stunning nature of the region will make you
relax perfectly and you will feel at home from
the friendly and willing assistance of Selena
Travel local fishing guides and other staff.
Pools, often at the end of a riffle or rapid,
or at the base of a cliff, are always a good
bet when looking for Taimen, but they will also
lie in wait in a hole or trench in the river
bed, or even hunt in packs to chase the grayling
through the riffles.
There are a number of good taimen pools close
to each of our lodges, and we can hike or take
the jeeps further a field each day to find additional
Taimen waters. Our groups sizes are kept small
to ensure plentiful fly fishing for everyone.
Enjoy exciting fly-fishing in pristine and peaceful
surroundings. We don’t need roaring jet
boats on the river, or noisy generators in the
camp, to provide you with excellent Taimen fly
fishing, and a comfortable lodge.
