Mt. Burkhan Haldun
This beautiful mountain is a place where the Great Khaan used to hide from rival tribes when he was young. Later he worshipped the mountain for saving his life thrice and this mountain has been sacred for over 800 years. The mountain is located the 1.2 million hectare Khan Khentii Strict Protected Area established in 1992. Burkhan Haldun is considered the most sacred mountain in Mongolia, because it was first designated as sacred by Chinggis Khaan. The mountain is rich in archaeological history, with over 800 burial sites identified by archaeologists.

Khar Zurkhen Khokh Lake is the place, where Genghis Khaan was given the honorary title "Genghis Khan" meaning the "Oceanic King" and enthroned as the Khaan of the Mongols in 1189. In the Secret History of the Mongols, it is written "After they enthroned Temujin as the Khaan, they held a big feast and danced and sang till the morning". Khar Zurkhenii Khokh Lake means "Black Lake of the Blue Heart" and people say that this name was given in the 12th century.
