"In
the year 1272, Beijing became the Capital of
a unified country for the first time in Mongolian
Yuan Dynasty (1206-1368) on the orders of Mongolian
Great Khaan Khubilai" was written in the
Travels of Marco Polo. In fact, Beijing has
been the Capital of Jin, Mongolian Yuan, Chinese
Ming, Manchu's Qing and Republic of China and
today it still is the center of national politics,
economics, culture, transportation and tourism.
Beijing is closely connected with the Mongolian
rich history as once it served as the capital
city of Great Mongolian Empire in the 13-14th
century when the Mongols ruled the world. The
municipality is under direct administration
of China's Central Government. The city is the
center of politics, culture, and international
exchanges, as well as one of the largest metropolises
of industry, finance and trade.
Beihai
Park
Located in the center of Beijing, the Beihai
Park is well known for its Jade Islet, Beihai
Lake and White Dagoba. The 35.9-meter-high White
Dagoba, which was firstly built in 165 L, sits
on a Sumeru base built with bricks and stones.
Many halls and pavilions stand among green pines
and cypresses, in addition to a long corridor
by the lake. The Beihai Park is an ideal place
for going boating in summer and skating in winter.
Immediately outside the southern gate is the
Circular City, known as a small city in the
city proper of Beijing. The Hall of Receiving
Light is in the center of the Circular City,
where visitors can see the 800-year-old pine
trees planted in Kin (1115-1234).
Terracotta
warriors museum
The Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses are the
most significant archeological excavations of
the 20th century. Work is ongoing at this site,
which is around 1.5 kilometers east of Emperor
Qin Shi Huang's Mausoleum, Lintong County, Shaanxi
province. It is a sight not to be missed by
any visitor to China. Upon ascending the throne
at the age of 13 (in 246 BC), Qin Shi Huang,
later the first Emperor of all China, had work
begun on his mausoleum. The Terracotta Warriors
and Horses is a sensational archeological find
of all times. It has put Xian on the map for
tourists. It was listed by UNESCO in 1987 as
one of the world cultural heritages.
Xi'an locates with an elevation of 500 metres,
the Weihe Plain extends between Baoji in the
west and Tongguan in the east and borders the
Qinling Mountains in the south and the Huangtu
Plateau in the north. Xi'an lies in the centre
to the south of this plain, a favourable geographical
location surrounded by water and hills.
Shaanxi
Provincial History Museum
Situated one kilometre north-west of
the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in Xian's southern
suburb, the Shaanxi Provincial History Museum
- a striking Tang-Dynasty style pavilion, houses
a large collection of 113,000 historic and cultural
artefacts unearthed in Shaanxi. It is an absolute
must for every visitor to the city. The main
complex is a mixture of ancient palaces and
courtyard buildings, harmonious and graceful
in hue, in simple and elegant style.
Shanghai, called "Hu"
for short, is a bustling metropolis located
at the mouth of the Yangtze River. Because of
its open to foreigners and its coastal location,
Shanghai is endowed with rich tourist attractions
related to its long and complicated history.
Many buildings, constructed in various foreign
styles, are well preserved in the Bund
area, and western tourists will feel a sense
of familiarity when strolling around the long
street, which resembles those in European cities.
The river sparkles with giant ships sailing
busily by; the banks are filled with skyscrapers
of different styles. On the modern Pudong side
of the river, the futuristic Oriental Pearl
TV Tower, with a giddy height of 468 meters,
stands as the world's third tallest TV tower,
after the 553-meter CN Tower in Toronto and
the 535-meter Moscow TV Tower. Because of its
brightly illuminated skyscrapers, Shanghai enjoys
international fame as the "Pearl of the
Orient". Shanghai is also a great destination
for shoppers, and the best-known shopping street
in China - Nanjing Road - is located here. This
exciting avenue is lined with well-known shops
and department stores selling clothing, food
and specialty goods.
Wuhan
is at the central part of China; almost wholly
located in the Jianghan Plain; sitting at the
confluence of the world's third longest river,
namely the Yangtze River and its longest branch
Hansui. Wuhan is a city with a long history
and glorious revolutionary tradition, where
the first shot of the Revolution of 1911 overthrew
the rule of 2000 years feudalism in China; an
important ancient town since the Shang and Zhou
dynasties, the Spring and Autumn Period, as
well as the Warring States; one of the famous
important towns in China in the Song, Yuan,
Ming and Qing dynasties; used to be the political,
military and cultural center of the whole country
for times. Chongqing is a modern
city, with an ancient history spanning more
than 3,000 years. It is the nation's fourth
municipality after Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin.
Perched beside the "Golden River"
of the Yangtze River, Chongqing is the symbol
of Changjiang civilization and also the cradle
of Bayu culture. Other
attractions include Dazu Grottoes, carved during
the ninth century, which are valuable works
of art and not to be missed is the Gold Buddhist
Mountain, reputed as a rich repository of diverse
animals and plants; and there's the Fishing
Town, which is one of the three ancient battlefields
in China. Yangtze River Cruise
The Three Gorges of China's most fabled river,
the Yangtze, are dramatically etched with the
history of China, from centuries-old pagodas
and temples built against steep-sided cliffs
to ancient plank roads and terraced fields along
the river's edge. The mighty Yangtze has long
been one of Asia's most revered attractions.
